Chempricehub, June 2
The Meishan Ecology and Environment Bureau has accepted the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the second-phase technical renovation of the lithium carbonate project by Sichuan Dixn New Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SQM. The project involves on-site modification of existing production lines, optimization of workshop equipment, and an increase in annual operating days to 330. After the renovation, the lithium carbonate production capacity will be raised from 20,000 to 25,000 tons per year, the by-product anhydrous sodium sulfate capacity will be expanded to 62,500 tons per year, and an additional 16,000 tons per year of mirabilite (Glauber's salt) will be produced.
Dixn is SQM's first lithium processing plant outside Chile. In 2023, SQM finalized the acquisition, with equity transfer completed in 2024. This project is the second production facility SQM has established in Meishan.
