The U.S. Energy Secretary stated that the United States is "not yet prepared" to escort in the Strait of Hormuz.
Published on 2026-03-14
On March 12, U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright stated in an interview with CNBC that the United States is currently "not ready" to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. Wright said, "(Escort) will be implemented soon, but not now," and "We are not ready at the moment. All our military assets are currently focused on destroying Iran's offensive capabilities and its related manufacturing industries." Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that, if necessary, the U.S. military would escort oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz. However, multiple informed sources revealed on the 10th that since the U.S.-Israel military strike on Iran, commercial ships and oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz have almost daily requested U.S. military escort, but all have been refused by the latter on the grounds of excessive risk.
