Analysis of the Impact of the Helium Export Ban Policy on Market Conditions

Published on 2026-07-10

Chempricehub, July 10 – On July 10, the Ministry of Commerce and the General Administration of Customs issued Announcement No. 29 of 2026, imposing a temporary export ban on helium under tariff code 2804290010, effective immediately. Due to the global helium supply shortage and China's high external dependence on helium, this policy prioritizes domestic demand in the chip, military, and medical sectors. Meanwhile, it is expected to exacerbate the global shortage of high-purity helium and accelerate the development of China's domestic helium extraction industry.

Note: High-purity helium is an irreplaceable raw material for advanced 3–5 nm chip production, primarily used in EUV lithography machine cooling and wafer etching processes.
