Butadiene prices in the Asian market remained high this week. Upstream feedstock prices moved higher, keeping the cost side of butadiene firm, and Lotte Chemical’s Daesan naphtha steam cracker in South Korea has been shut down indefinitely since September 1, leaving butadiene supply tight and supporting sellers’ offers at firm levels. Downstream demand, however, was relatively weak. A domestic trader said, “Spot demand has almost dried up,” adding that this was also related to China’s butadiene prices being at relatively high levels.
