March 10th News — On March 10th, the methanol market in Shandong region experienced mixed fluctuations: In Zibo, Shandong, the negotiated methanol price was 2,400 RMB/ton delivered on a spot payment basis, down 350 RMB/ton. In central Shandong, the methanol price was quoted at 2,760 RMB/ton, up 225 RMB/ton. In Dongying, Shandong, the methanol market price ranged from 2,390 to 2,400 RMB/ton delivered on a spot payment basis, down 335 RMB/ton. In Jining, the ex-factory methanol price reference was 2,650–2,650 RMB/ton ex-works on a spot payment basis, while in Linyi, the delivered price reference was 2,680–2,710 RMB/ton delivered on a spot payment basis.
Chempricehub's analysis of methanol gave a long-short score of -1. The article indicates that spot methanol prices in Shandong are fluctuating with mixed trends. Prices in Zibo fell by 350 RMB/ton to 2,400 RMB/ton, and in Dongying by 335 RMB/ton to 2,390–2,400 RMB/ton, while central Shandong saw an increase of 225 RMB/ton to 2,760 RMB/ton. Prices in Jining and Linyi remained stable. This suggests increased supply pressure or insufficient demand in local markets, with an overall bearish but highly volatile sentiment, exerting a generally negative impact on spot prices.
Combined with futures data, methanol contracts such as MA2605 closed at 2,549 RMB/ton (down 159 RMB) and MA2611 closed at 2,466 RMB/ton (down 44 RMB), showing widespread declines with active trading volumes. This reflects pessimistic market expectations, which may further dampen spot market sentiment, putting downward pressure on futures prices.
