Chempricehub Alert: Impact Analysis of Zhejiang Petrochemical's Bisphenol A Plant Maintenance
Published on 2026-01-17
January 16th News: On January 16th, Zhejiang Petrochemical's 480,000 tons/year bisphenol A (BPA) plant operated at 90% capacity for its first phase. The second phase of the plant was shut down for maintenance on December 10th and is expected to restart on January 20th. The products primarily supply the downstream 520,000 tons/year polycarbonate (PC) plant. Currently, the second phase of the PC plant is gradually entering its maintenance period. Chempricehub's analysis of bisphenol A: Bullish-Bearish Score: 1 The shutdown of the second phase of Zhejiang Petrochemical's BPA plant for maintenance has led to a reduction in supply. The first phase operating at 90% capacity only partially compensates for this, resulting in overall tight supply. While downstream PC plant maintenance reduces demand, the supply shock dominates, providing short-term support for spot prices. A slight price increase is expected. Epoxy Resin: Bullish-Bearish Score: 1 As a major raw material for epoxy resin, the tight supply of BPA is driving up its costs, which may be passed on to the epoxy resin production side, increasing upward pressure on spot prices. No changes in demand were mentioned, with cost-driven factors dominating the positive impact.
