May 20 News — On May 20, the quotation for industrial-grade sodium metabisulfite (96.5% purity) in Hebei Province stood at 4,100 RMB/ton, up by 200 RMB/ton. Prices of raw materials such as sulfur and soda ash continued to rise, with cost pressure driving the increase in sodium metabisulfite prices. Chempricehub assesses sodium metabisulfite with a bullish-bearish score of 1.

On May 20, the quotation for industrial-grade sodium metabisulfite (96.5% purity) in Hebei was raised by 200 RMB/ton to 4,100 RMB/ton. Upstream raw material prices for sulfur and soda ash kept rising, providing strong cost-side support and a clear positive impact on spot prices.

Soda ash (bullish-bearish score: 0.5)
Soda ash is a core production raw material for sodium metabisulfite. Downstream demand supports the continued upward trend in soda ash prices. On May 19, the main contract 2609 of soda ash on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange closed at 1,193 RMB/ton, with open interest increasing by 18,756 lots compared to the previous trading day. The overall market performance was relatively strong, and prices still have upward momentum under cost support.

Sulfur (bullish-bearish score: 0.5)
Sulfur is one of the production raw materials for sodium metabisulfite. Favorable downstream demand has driven sulfur prices to keep rising. With strong cost-side support, prices are trending upward.
