CNOOC Participates in the Official Production Launch of Brazil's Búzios Phase 6 Project
Published on 2026-01-04

Petrobras announced on the 2nd that the Búzios Phase VI project, in which China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) holds a participating interest, officially commenced production on December 31, 2025, local time. Located in the Santos Basin off the southeastern coast of Brazil, the project operates at water depths ranging from 1,900 to 2,200 meters and employs a "Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) + Subsea Production System" development model for deepwater pre-salt reservoirs. The project is designed with a daily crude oil production capacity of approximately 25,000 tons and a daily natural gas processing capacity of 7.2 million cubic meters. With the successful commissioning of Phase VI, the overall daily production capacity of the Búzios field will exceed 1.15 million barrels.

Luís Schmall, General Manager of Petrobras’ Búzios field, highlighted that the FPSO deployed in this project not only delivers excellent production performance but also incorporates advanced technologies such as heat recovery and enclosed flares in the areas of energy conservation and carbon reduction. These innovations effectively enhance energy utilization efficiency and significantly reduce carbon emissions. The successful implementation of this project serves as a model of close collaboration and efficient execution between Chinese and Brazilian enterprises.

Huang Yehua, General Manager of CNOOC Brazil, stated that CNOOC is continuously deepening its cooperation with Brazil in the development of ultra-deepwater oil fields, striving to achieve synergistic development in oil and gas resource exploitation, technological innovation, and green, low-carbon transformation.
