While this is negligible for human health, it has implications for industrial gas producers. Oxygen is typically separated from air via cryogenic distillation, and a 0.1% drop in feed concentration slightly increases energy consumption per tonne of product. More importantly, the sheer scale of atmospheric oxygen—estimated at 1.4e18 kg—means resource depletion is not a concern. Instead, pricing is driven by electricity costs, equipment efficiency, and regional competition. For buyers, the key takeaway is that oxygen prices are more sensitive to energy markets than to atmospheric composition. Monitoring power tariffs and producer capacity utilization provides better price signals than tracking global oxygen levels.
