This property is analytically useful: borates, boric acid, and even borane combustion produce distinct green flames. For industrial quality control, this can serve as a rapid qualitative test for boron presence in raw materials or finished products. However, the effect is often masked by other elements—lithium's crimson flame is completely overwhelmed by boron's green in lithium borohydride. In practice, spectroscopic methods remain the gold standard for quantitative boron analysis, but understanding flame behavior helps avoid misidentification in routine screening, especially when verifying borate content in glass or ceramic feedstocks.
