How does propylene glycol market volatility impact downstream UV-curable resin producers?
Propylene glycol price swings directly affect tripropylene glycol (TPG), a key raw material for UV-curable diluents like TPGDA. In a typical esterification process for TPGDA, TPG accounts for 27.5% of feedstock mass, with acrylic acid at 22.5% and toluene as azeotropic solvent at 47.5%. When PG prices spiked over 100% from Q4 2025 to mid-2026, TPG costs followed, pressuring margins for UV monomer makers. Meanwhile, PG demand from AI liquid cooling is a new growth vector, but traditional downstream sectors like unsaturated polyester resin operate below 40% capacity in seasonal downturns.
