South Korea plans to reduce ethylene production capacity by 2.7 million to 3.7 million tons.

Published on 2026-03-02

The South Korean government has officially approved the restructuring of the Lotte Chemical and HD Hyundai Chemical Daesan Complex, investing 2.1 trillion won to support industry self-rescue efforts. This includes the shutdown of a million-ton ethylene plant, with plans to reduce national ethylene production capacity by 2.7 to 3.7 million tons. This marks a critical supply-side adjustment in the Northeast Asian cracking market.
