What are the key quality parameters beyond purity when sourcing barium carbonate?
Buyers often fixate on the 99.2% purity standard for industrial-grade barium carbonate, but three hidden parameters determine real usability. Hydrochloric acid insolubles, capped at 0.15% for top-grade material per GB/T 1614-2011, directly impact ceramic glaze quality—elevated levels cause pinholes, black specks, and surface defects. Iron content, limited to 0.004%, is equally critical: even trace iron shifts color in white and transparent glazes, producing yellow or gray tones that ruin batch consistency. Particle size and type (light versus dense) also matter, affecting flow, dispersion, and sintering behavior. Smart procurement teams request these specs alongside pricing, as two batches with identical purity can perform very differently in downstream ceramic, glass, or electronic applications. Always verify supplier test data for these three parameters before committing to volume orders.

    Also check the production route. Barium carbonate made from different barite sources or with varying washing steps can show different trace impurity profiles, especially sulfur and strontium. For high-end electronic or optical applications, request ICP-MS data to confirm ppb-level control, not just the standard GB limits.
