What drives the global linalool market and who are the key producers?
Linalool is a core fragrance ingredient used across fine perfumery, household care, soap and food flavors, prized for its lily-of-the-valley scent and role as a top-note enhancer. Global demand is split between roughly 15,000 tonnes for fragrance compounding and about 55,000 tonnes as a chemical intermediate for vitamins A, D, E, K, beta-carotene and squalene. Supply is oligopolistic: synthetic linalool is dominated by BASF, DSM, IFF and NHU, with NHU holding 10,000 tonnes of capacity, second globally. Natural linalool, mainly sourced from ho wood and leaf oils in China, is produced by smaller players in Jiangxi, such as Tianxiang and Jiangxi East. The market is mature, with competition centered on cost, safety and environmental compliance rather than technology breakthroughs.
