Analysis of China's Sulfur Production Data (April 2026)

Published on 2026-05-19

In April 2026, China’s sulfur output was 998,800 tonnes, down 62,900 tonnes from the previous month, a month-on-month decrease of 5.92% and a year-on-year increase of 8.38%.

II. Production Trend Forecast and Analysis

In May 2026, Yangzi Petrochemical is scheduled for a shutdown and maintenance turnaround in mid-month. However, facilities at Shijiazhuang Refining & Chemical, Tahe Petrochemical, Qilu Petrochemical, and others that previously reduced loads or underwent maintenance are expected to resume supply. Overall, domestic output in May is expected to remain stable with a slight increase.

III. Comparison of Production Trend and Product Price

In April 2026, China’s monthly sample sulfur output declined by 5.92% month-on-month. Sulfur, as a by-product mainly derived from crude oil, natural gas, and coal, has a relatively low correlation with price; output is primarily influenced by production unit maintenance schedules and sulfur content. Production volumes decreased at a refinery in Dalian, Zhejiang Petrochemical, Yulong Petrochemical, and Guangdong Petrochemical. In addition, Shijiazhuang Refining & Chemical and Liaohe Petrochemical carried out full-plant maintenance, resulting in a slight overall decline in domestic output.

Sample note: Data are calculated by Chempricehub Information based on the designed capacity of 135 sulfur enterprises in China as of the data release date, with a capacity coverage of over 95%.

China's April sulfur output slid 5.92% MoM on turnarounds, but May restarts suggest stable supply. For downstream acid plants, feedstock availability looks adequate, limiting margin swings despite the monthly dip.
