II. Production Trend Forecast Analysis

In September 2026, units at Yangzi Petrochemical, Hainan Refining & Chemical, and Lijin Petrochemical are expected to resume production. Additionally, some refineries in East China have plans to boost output. Consequently, domestic production is projected to continue its slight upward trend in September.

III. Comparison of Production Trends and Product Prices

In August 2026, China’s monthly sample sulfur production increased by 2.57% MoM but decreased by 16.62% YoY. As sulfur is primarily a byproduct derived from crude oil, natural gas, and coal, its price correlation with these feedstocks is relatively low. Production levels are mainly determined by maintenance schedules at manufacturing facilities and sulfur content. Regarding supply, this month saw increased output from major state-owned refineries in East China, Yulong Petrochemical, and Dongming Petrochemical. Furthermore, Shenghong Refining & Chemical and Shaanxi Future Energy resumed operations, leading to an overall slight increase in domestic monthly production.

Sulfur output up 2.57% MoM but down 16.62% YoY. Refinery restarts may lift September supply, yet weak downstream demand keeps margins under pressure. Capacity utilization remains key for pricing stability.
