Analysis of China's Sulfur Production Data (May 2026)

In May 2026, China’s sulfur production reached 1,002,800 tonnes, down 500 tonnes from the previous month, a month-on-month decrease of 0.05%, and an increase of 6.86% year-on-year.

2. Production Trend Forecast and Analysis

In June 2026, amid high crude oil prices and as some enterprises enter planned maintenance cycles, more producers are expected to cut output or undergo maintenance, leading to a marked contraction in supply. Domestic sulfur production is expected to decline significantly in June.

3. Comparison of Production Trends and Product Prices

In May 2026, China’s monthly sample sulfur production declined by 0.05% month-on-month. As a by-product mainly sourced from crude oil, natural gas, coal, etc., sulfur has a relatively low correlation with product prices; output is mainly determined by producer unit maintenance schedules and sulfur content. On the supply side, shipments from Guangdong Petrochemical, Maoming Petrochemical, Sinopec Zhongke Refinery, and Shandong local refineries such as Yulong Petrochemical were reduced; Yangzi Petrochemical was shut down for maintenance; and Tahe Petrochemical posted a slight supply increase. As a result, overall domestic monthly production fluctuated within a narrow range.
