ChemPriceHub Alert: Impact Analysis of Japan's Silicon Metal Import Data

Published on 2026-02-06

According to data from the Japan Statistics Bureau, Japan's total imports of industrial silicon in December 2025 amounted to approximately 14,803.1 tons. Among these, imports of metallic silicon from China reached 11,508.517 tons, ranking first. PriceSeek's analysis of metallic silicon indicates a bearish score of -1. Japan's imports of metallic silicon from China in December 2025 totaled 11,508.517 tons, accounting for 77.7% of the total imports of 14,803.1 tons. This reflects strong supply from China and ample market availability, which may exert downward pressure on spot prices. Combined with futures data for industrial silicon, such as the 2605 contract (closing price of 8,500 yuan/ton on February 6, 2026, down 205 points), which shows a recent downtrend, these import figures reinforce expectations of oversupply. This has a negative impact on futures prices, contributing to bearish market conditions.
