Chempricehub Key Reminder: CIMC Green Energy's Green Methanol Project Commences Production
Published on 2026-01-03

December 25th News: The Zhanjiang 50,000-ton/year Biomass Gasification to Green Methanol Demonstration Project (China's first mass-production project) by CIMC Green Energy recently commenced operation. Utilizing the circulating fluidized bed gasification technology from the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, it achieves over 85% reduction in emissions throughout its lifecycle, with a purity of 99.9%. The first batch has already been used for bunkering international cargo ships at Shenzhen Port. The project establishes a closed-loop "production-storage-transportation-application" system in South China, featuring a 30,000 cubic meter storage tank and a dedicated berth. Its exports to Singapore benefit from short distances and low carbon footprints, and it has obtained ISCC EU certification and C14 traceability. Chempricehub's analysis of methanol shows a long-short score of 1.5. As China's first mass-production green methanol demonstration project with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons, it employs biomass gasification technology, achieving over 85% lifecycle emission reduction and a purity of 99.9%. The first batch has been used for bunkering international cargo ships at Shenzhen Port, establishing a closed-loop "production-storage-transportation-application" system in South China, equipped with a 30,000 cubic meter storage tank and a dedicated berth. Its exports to Singapore feature low carbon footprints, and it has obtained ISCC EU certification and C14 traceability. This significantly boosts the demand outlook for methanol as a clean fuel, benefiting spot prices, as increased green methanol supply may attract policy support and international procurement, driving market premiums. Combined with the recent overall upward trend in methanol futures prices (e.g., the 2609 contract rose by 14 yuan), the project's operation may further support the upward movement of futures prices, reflecting growth potential in demand and benefits from the environmental transition.
