Chempricehub reminds: China's BDO exports are affected by anti-dumping duties.
Published on 2026-04-28

April 28 - In 2026, China's top three BDO export trading partners were Vietnam, Malaysia, and Taiwan (China), with the Vietnamese market primarily supplying the Hyosung PTMEG production plant in South Korea, consistent with previous years. However, for EU countries such as Italy and the Netherlands, which ranked high in 2024-2025, exports in the first quarter plummeted to just 0.11 million tonnes and 0.06 million tonnes, respectively, due to the imposition of high EU anti-dumping duties effective February 6, 2026. Chempricehub assesses 1,4-butanediol with a bullish/bearish score of -1: The EU's high anti-dumping duties, effective from February 6, 2026, have caused a sharp decline in China's BDO exports to key markets such as Italy and the Netherlands (only 0.11 million tonnes and 0.06 million tonnes in Q1), potentially increasing the risk of domestic oversupply and exerting downward pressure on spot prices. Although the shift in exports toward Vietnam, Malaysia, and Taiwan (China)—mainly supplying the Hyosung PTMEG plant—provides some support, overall demand is weakening, with bearish factors dominating.
