China Butadiene Theoretical Profit Weekly Data Analysis (Aug 27–Sep 2, 2026)

Published on 2026-09-03
  1. Qualitative Analysis of Sample Trends

During the current period (Aug 27–Sep 2, 2026), profit from the C4 extraction process for butadiene was RMB 4,535.25/t, up RMB 740.97/t from the previous period. Profit from the oxidative dehydrogenation process was RMB 1,420/t, up RMB 919/t from the previous period. During the week, naphtha prices moved higher, strengthening the cost side for butadiene. At the same time, tight spot supply led suppliers to raise prices substantially, boosting profits in both the extraction and oxidative dehydrogenation routes. For the coal-to-oil process, no theoretical profit estimate was available because suppliers had not issued effective quotations.

Table: Butadiene Production Profit by Process (RMB/t)

Process Current period Previous period Change Change (%)
C4 extraction 4,535.25 3,794.28 740.97 19.53%
Oxidative dehydrogenation 1,420 501 919 183.43%
Coal-to-oil -- 347 -- --

  1. Predictive Analysis of Sample Trends

Crude oil prices are expected to remain high, and supplier quotations are likely to stay firm. Therefore, profits across butadiene production routes are expected to improve.

  1. Product Sample Trends vs. Prices

As of September 3, 2026, China’s butadiene market prices continued to rise. The weekly average delivered price in the Luzhong area of Shandong stood at RMB 13,960/t, up RMB 1,335/t from the previous period.

Sample description: Chempricehub monitors theoretical profits by collecting the raw-material prices required for different butadiene production processes, as well as sample enterprise prices and market prices for butadiene produced by those processes.

Statistical scope: Profit statistics for different butadiene production processes are based on data as of Thursday of the current week, and are released before 17:00 on each working Friday.

The sharp margin expansion shows tight spot supply outweighing feedstock cost pressure, but I’d watch downstream demand before assuming this butadiene profit level is sustainable.
