1. Qualitative Analysis of Production and Capacity Utilization Trends

During the week of July 24–30, 2026, China’s methanol production stood at 1,914,685 tonnes, down 370 tonnes from the previous week. Plant capacity utilization was 84.91%, down 0.01 percentage points week on week.

During this period, units entering maintenance included Yunnan Jiehua and two units in Ningxia. New output reduction measures were implemented at Shenhua Xilaifeng. Several units resumed operation after maintenance or output cuts, including Anhui Haoyuan, Shaanxi Xinghua, Inner Mongolia Baotou Steel, Hengli Petrochemical, Xinjiang Guanghui, Changzhi Nanyao, and one unit in Inner Mongolia. Since the total output loss exceeded the recovered volume during the period, capacity utilization and production declined.

2. Forecast of Production and Capacity Utilization Trends

Next week, China’s weekly methanol production and capacity utilization rate are expected to rise from the current period, with production of approximately 2,020,800 tonnes and capacity utilization of about 89.61%. More capacity is scheduled to resume operations than capacity under maintenance or production cuts, leading to higher capacity utilization and output.

3. Comparison of Capacity Utilization and Price Trends

This week, China’s methanol capacity utilization was 84.91%, down 0.01 percentage points week on week and up 0.34 percentage points year on year. Domestic methanol capacity utilization edged down during the week, but the overall change was limited. Futures prices fluctuated sharply within a range, buying interest weakened, and physical transaction volumes fell from the previous week, causing spot transaction prices in major producing regions to decline slightly.
