Chempricehub News, September 3: According to Chempricehub data estimates, the current weekly average cost of calcium-carbide-process vinyl acetate in China is RMB 6,034.8/ton. The unit consumption of vinyl acetate for producing one ton of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is about 1.7–1.9 tons, giving a theoretical weekly average PVA cost of RMB 8,666.12/ton. Taking the listed price of Great Wall Energy Chemical's PVA 1799 grade as an example, the theoretical gross profit (including crude methyl acetate) is RMB 2,173.88/ton.

    That PVA margin above 2,000 yuan/t looks healthy, but if calcium-carbide feedstock cost keeps rising, downstream demand may soften and capacity utilization could get squeezed.
