Cost and Profit Analysis of Vinyl Acetate on October 22, 2026

Published on 2026-10-22

Chempricehub Report, October 22:

For vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) produced via the ethylene route, raw material prices in Jiangsu Province averaged 4,370 RMB/ton for glacial acetic acid, while Northeast Asian ethylene prices averaged 1,142 USD/ton. Based on Chempricehub’s cost estimation formula, the theoretical production cost of ethylene-route VAM this week is 7,672.19 RMB/ton. The average weekly price for ethylene-route VAM sourced from East China (ex-factory Shanghai Petrochemical) stands at 7,780 RMB/ton, resulting in an average weekly theoretical gross margin of 107.8 RMB/ton.

For VAM produced via the calcium carbide route, raw material prices in North China averaged 4,430 RMB/ton for glacial acetic acid, and prices in Northwest China averaged 2,400 RMB/ton for calcium carbide. According to Chempricehub’s cost estimation formula, the theoretical production cost of calcium carbide-route VAM this week is 6,697 RMB/ton. Currently, the price for calcium carbide-route VAM supplied by Changcheng Energy & Chemical in Jiangsu Province is 7,950 RMB/ton, yielding an average weekly theoretical gross margin of 993.8 RMB/ton.

The 107.8 RMB/ton margin for ethylene-route VAM is dangerously thin, highlighting severe feedstock cost pressure compared to the carbide route’s near 1,000 RMB/ton profit. This divergence risks forcing capacity utilizat..
