Costs Strengthen, Bisphenol A Market Extends Gains (September 4–10, 2026)

Published on 2026-09-10

1. Market Focus This Week

  • This week, the average operating rate in the bisphenol A (BPA) industry was 63.51%, and BPA output increased from the previous period.
  • This week, phenol and acetone feedstock prices continued to surge, sharply pushing up the average BPA cost.
  • This week, operating loads in the two major downstream sectors both declined.

2. Market Analysis This Week

Table: Comparison of Average Market Prices of Domestic Bisphenol A by Region This Week (RMB/mt)

Product Region/Category 2026/9/10 2026/9/3 Change Change (%) Unit
Bisphenol A East China 10,650 9,850 800 8.12% RMB/mt
North China 10,700 9,850 850 8.63% RMB/mt

During this period, the bisphenol A market continued to rise. As of the close on Thursday this week, negotiations in the mainstream East China market were referenced at RMB 10,650/mt. The bullish atmosphere in the market remained strong this week: the cost side moved higher, BPA producers had low inventories and mainly focused on delivering previous orders, suppliers had a strong intention to hold prices firm, producers' list prices were raised repeatedly, holders raised their offers with an obvious reluctance to sell, downstream demand was mainly rigid, buying sentiment was cautious, but low-priced goods were hard to find, and the focus of actual negotiations moved upward.

3. Analysis of Market Influencing Factors

  1. Zhejiang Petrochemical operated at 90%; Nan Ya Phase II's normal operating period increased, while the Phase I unit's shutdown period increased; Qingdao Haiwan's normal operating period increased; Shandong Ruilin operated at 40%; Longjiang Chemical and Guangxi Huayi had melting operations during the week. With these factors offsetting each other, BPA output edged up slightly this week.

  2. This week, the increase in the average BPA market price was greater than the rise in costs, so profit values increased.

4. Market Outlook

The BPA market is expected to have further upside in the next period. Key points to watch:

  1. Supply side. BPA output is expected to decline next week; enterprise inventories are likely to remain low, with previous orders being delivered.
  2. Demand side. As the holiday approaches, downstream restocking sentiment is fair, but because BPA prices are at a high level, buying sentiment is cautious.
  3. Cost side. The phenol/acetone feedstock market may move higher, providing strong cost support.
  4. Sentiment. Under the bullish factor of tight supply, holders' sentiment is improving and there is a tendency to support prices. Therefore, the short-term market is expected to be mainly upward.
Product Region/Category November 13 November 6 Change Change (%) Unit
Bisphenol A East China 7,150 7,300 -150 -2.05% RMB/mt
North China 7,100 7,200 -100 -1.39% RMB/mt

With phenol/acetone feedstock costs surging and BPA capacity utilization only 63.51%, I expect cost-push strength to persist, but weaker downstream demand may cap margins.
