Cost-side support keeps butyl acetate prices elevated (October 2026)

Published on 2026-10-28
  1. Key Focus for the Month
  1. Supply: The monthly average capacity utilization rate stood at 54.49%, a decrease of 1.50% from the previous month.

  2. Costs: The market price of the raw material acetic acid rose strongly. During the month, the East China acetic acid price fluctuated between RMB 4,453–4,523/ton, while the East China n-butanol price ranged from RMB 8,383–8,433/ton.

  3. Profit: The theoretical profit margin for butyl acetate in October was RMB 17/ton, an increase of RMB 93/ton month-on-month, representing a growth rate of 122.37%.

Strong cost-side drivers dominated the entire month. At the beginning of the month, the market price of raw material n-butanol moved sideways. Rising geopolitical tensions boosted market sentiment, increasing buying interest from downstream users and traders, which halted price declines and triggered upward movement. Subsequently, both acetic acid and n-butanol remained firm, providing solid cost support. Major factories in Shandong achieved premium transactions through bidding, creating a strong momentum-chasing atmosphere and facilitating smooth transactions across multiple regions.

In the mid-to-upper part of the month, unstable international situations drove both raw materials higher. Coupled with good execution of export orders and controllable shipment volumes by major factories, downstream users engaged in opportunistic restocking due to fear of further price hikes. Factories raised quotes accordingly, causing the market center to shift gradually upward.

In the latter part of the month, as prices reached high levels, downstream resistance emerged, reducing willingness to accept goods. Some participants withdrew from the market to consume existing inventories, hindering downward price transmission. However, due to strong cost support and stable exports, factories showed little willingness to offer discounts, leading the market to return to consolidation. Most industry players adopted a wait-and-see approach regarding raw material trends. Additionally, with the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, buying activity was sparse, and transaction volumes contracted compared to earlier periods.

  1. Next Month's Market Forecast

The current supply side remains ample. Future attention should be paid to operational updates from Dongying Yisheng and Jinyimeng plants. On the demand side, post-holiday downstream restocking intensity may fall short of expectations, with persistent weakness in end-user demand and uncertainty regarding the sustainability of export orders. Regarding costs, the trends for raw materials acetic acid and n-butanol are currently divergent; if n-butanol continues its weak trend, bottom-line support may loosen. Chempricehub predicts that in the short term, the market lacks clear positive drivers, limiting upside potential. It is expected that high-level butyl acetate prices in October may soften.

Butyl acetate’s October rally was purely cost-driven, with feedstock inflation pushing margins to RMB 17/ton. However, the 54% capacity utilization signals ample supply ahead. With downstream resistance emerging, I expe..
