Ethylene Oxide Market Morning Brief

Published on 2026-09-30

I. Key Focus Points

  1. Sep 29: Mediators including Qatar continued to push for US-Iran peace talks, while Saudi crude oil supply saw some recovery, leading to a decline in international oil prices. The NYMEX WTI November futures contract fell $3.22/bbl to $89.38/bbl, down 3.48% on the day; the ICE Brent November futures contract dropped $2.69/bbl to $102.59/bbl, down 2.56%. China’s INE crude oil futures November 2026 contract fell by 17.2 yuan/barrel to 716.9 yuan/barrel, and declined another 11.7 yuan/barrel to 705.2 yuan/barrel during the night session.

  2. Sep 29: Port-side ethylene USD CFR Northeast Asia price stood at $1,180/ton, unchanged from the previous business day.

  3. Sep 29: Daily capacity utilization rate of China’s ethylene oxide industry was 50.26%.

  4. Unit: Yuan/ton.

III. Market Outlook

The ethylene oxide market is expected to remain stable today. On the supply side, monoethylene glycol (MEG) prices have trended downward, causing MEG profits to retreat and weakening the incentive to switch production to MEG; consequently, EO supply may increase. The primary downstream industries rely mainly on contracted volumes, with the market driven by rigid demand. On the cost side, domestic ethylene prices remain stable, with purchasing activity primarily reflecting rigid demand. Overall, fundamental changes are limited, keeping EO prices firm. Continued attention should be paid to dynamic changes upstream and downstream.

With EO capacity utilization at 50.26% and spot prices stable, the market shows resilience despite softening downstream EPEG demand. While falling oil costs ease feedstock pressure, margins remain tight. I expect prices ..
