EU official says it will not resume energy imports from Russia.
Published on 2026-03-18

On March 16 local time, a meeting of EU energy ministers was held in Brussels. The meeting focused on the impact of the Middle East conflict on Europe's energy supply and price stability, as well as the EU's response. The meeting was chaired by EU Energy Commissioner Jonsson. After the meeting, Jonsson said that the European Commission is studying "targeted temporary measures" to alleviate the pressure brought by rising energy prices. In addition, Jonsson also stated that the EU will not re-engage with Russia on energy imports to offset the impact of soaring energy prices. The EU will adhere to the established path of gradually reducing its dependence on Russian energy and will not change its policy due to current fluctuations in the energy market.
