On January 27, 2026, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India issued an announcement stating that, in response to applications submitted by domestic Indian companies IG Petrochemicals Limited, Thirumalai Chemical Industries Limited, and TCL Intermediates Private Limited, it initiated the first sunset review investigation into phthalic anhydride originating from or imported from China, South Korea, and Thailand. The Indian Customs Tariff Code for the product involved is 29173500. The dumping investigation period for this case is from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025 (12 months), and the injury investigation period covers April 2022 to March 2023, April 2023 to March 2024, April 2024 to March 2025, and October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025 (12 months). Interested parties should submit relevant information to the investigating authority through the following link https://setu.dgtr.gov.in within 37 days from the date of case initiation.
On May 21, 2020, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India issued an announcement stating that, in response to applications submitted by domestic Indian companies IG Petrochemicals Limited, Thirumalai Chemicals Ltd., and SI Group India Pvt. Ltd., it initiated an anti-dumping investigation into phthalic anhydride originating from or imported from China, Indonesia, South Korea, and Thailand. On May 19, 2021, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India issued a final affirmative ruling on the case. On August 9, 2021, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Ministry of Finance of India, issued Notification No. 43/2021-Customs (ADD), deciding to impose anti-dumping duties on the product involved from the aforementioned countries for a period of five years, as follows: China at USD 40.08 per ton, Indonesia at USD 59.83–90.11 per ton, Thailand at USD 63.06–134.91 per ton, and South Korea at the difference between USD 41.26–140.17 per ton and the duty imposed under Notification No. 152/2009-Customs issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs on December 31, 2009 (provided that the duty in this case is higher than that under Notification No. 152/2009-Customs). The measures are valid until August 8, 2026.
