Key Highlights in the Ethylene Glycol Industry (April 7–10, 2026)

  1. The 400,000-ton-per-year syngas-to-ethylene glycol plant of Shaanxi YUNENG Chemical underwent shutdown for maintenance starting in March. The maintenance has now been completed, and the plant was recently restarted.

  2. As of April 9, the total port inventory of MEG in the main East China port area stood at 925,000 tons. Details are as follows: Zhangjiagang—530,000 tons, Taicang—289,000 tons, Jiangyin and Changzhou—51,000 tons, Shanghai and Changshu—55,000 tons. In terms of port shipments: the average daily shipment at Zhangjiagang this week was around 5,300 tons, while at Taicang it was approximately 5,800 tons.

  3. As of April 15, 2026, the total estimated ethylene glycol arrivals at East China ports in China are projected to be 29,000 tons, including 22,000 tons at Zhangjiagang, 7,000 tons at Taicang, 0 tons at Ningbo, and 0 tons at Jiangyin.

    The restart of that 400kt Shaanxi plant adds supply just as port inventories are already high. With downstream demand still uncertain, this could pressure operating margins for producers in the near term.
