On January 14, the market price of phthalic anhydride in East China showed a strong consolidation trend. The mainstream quotation for phthalic anhydride produced via the ortho-xylene method was between 6,100 and 6,350 yuan per ton, while the market price for phthalic anhydride produced via the naphthalene method ranged from 5,700 to 6,050 yuan per ton. The price of industrial naphthalene fluctuated and stabilized, while the price of ortho-xylene experienced a fluctuating increase, leading to a rise in the production cost of phthalic anhydride. In the downstream market, the plasticizer sector also exhibited a strong consolidation trend. Plasticizer manufacturers reduced their equipment operating rates, and downstream demand remained primarily rigid, with phthalic anhydride procurement being need-based. Despite this, demand support for phthalic anhydride persisted. Phthalic anhydride manufacturers slightly lowered their equipment operating rates, but supply remained sufficient, with low inventory levels. It is anticipated that the phthalic anhydride market will continue to show a strong consolidation trend in the near future.
