Chempricehub News reported on September 10: Based on estimates from Chempricehub data, the current weekly average cost of domestic calcium carbide-based vinyl acetate is RMB 6,353.6/mt. The unit consumption of vinyl acetate per tonne of polyvinyl alcohol produced is approximately 1.7–1.9 tonnes, putting the theoretical weekly average cost of polyvinyl alcohol at RMB 8,771.84/mt. Taking the listed price of Great Wall Energy and Chemical’s 1799 grade as an example, the theoretical gross profit (including crude methyl acetate) is RMB 2,228.16/mt.

    I see PVA theoretical cost near RMB8,772/mt with calcium carbide-based vinyl acetate at RMB6,353.6/mt. That margin looks healthy, but feedstock cost swings and downstream demand still pose risks to capacity utilization.
