The domestic 2-EH market exhibited a trend of rising followed by a pullback this week. After prices surged, trading became stagnant. In the second half of the week, spot negotiations softened. By Friday, mainstream factory ex-works quotes in the Shandong region stabilized at 9,500 CNY/ton, an increase of 200 CNY/ton compared to last Thursday. The core driver behind this price rally was cost-side support. In the first half of the week, international crude oil prices remained strong, pushing upstream propylene prices steadily higher. This shifted the overall cost center of the industry chain upward, providing robust momentum for the 2-EH market and prompting domestic producers to uniformly raise their offers to high levels. However, after prices peaked, upward momentum gradually faded. Downstream end-users showed low acceptance of high raw material prices, leading to growing resistance. Overall trading sentiment cooled significantly, with end-user procurement slowing down as they primarily replenished stocks on an as-needed basis. Consequently, spot negotiation centers weakened in the second half of the week.

  1. Next Week's Market Forecast

Supply: Next week, 2-EH supply in the East China region will increase, while supply in the North China region will decrease. Overall market supply is expected to rise slightly.

Demand: The overall operating rate of plasticizers is expected to increase slightly next week, meaning rigid demand for 2-EH will remain largely unchanged compared to this week.

Costs: Propylene prices will fluctuate at high levels, keeping 2-EH production costs elevated.

Next week, 2-EH supply in the East China region will recover upwards, supply in the Shandong region will be ample, while supply in the North China market will tighten, resulting in a slight overall increase in market supply. On the demand side, downstream plasticizer industry operating rates are projected to increase slightly compared to this week, leading to a marginal rise in rigid demand. Regarding costs, propylene prices will continue to operate at high levels, maintaining high production costs for 2-EH products. In summary, spot supply of 2-EH will be ample next week. Producers may offer discounts to move inventory. After a slight price decline, buyers are expected to make moderate replenishment purchases. Market participants will closely monitor propylene price fluctuations and changes in downstream plasticizer orders.

Weak downstream demand from plasticizers is capping 2-EH prices despite rising feedstock costs. With capacity utilization climbing to 74%, the margin squeeze persists, suggesting potential price dips as supply outpaces r..
