Russia hopes Turkey will prevent Ukraine from attacking Russian gas pipelines.
Published on 2026-03-27

Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov recently stated that Russia believes Turkey can leverage its influence over Ukraine to prevent Ukrainian attacks on Russian natural gas pipeline facilities.

During a routine press conference that day, Peskov noted that the risk of attacks on the "TurkStream" and "Blue Stream" natural gas pipelines has been increasing recently. Russia regularly expresses its concerns to Turkey on this matter. Russia has repeatedly provided Turkey with all relevant details and will continue to do so in the future.

Peskov emphasized that Russia is confident that Turkey can use its influence over Ukraine to prevent such reckless attacks.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that the Ukrainian armed forces' attacks on the "TurkStream" and "Blue Stream" natural gas pipelines, carried out with the tacit consent of the West, indicate that the West has no interest in resolving the Ukraine issue.

On the 11th, Gazprom announced that since February 24, key energy infrastructure in southern Russia, which supports the operation of the "TurkStream" and "Blue Stream" natural gas pipelines, has been attacked more than ten times.

On the 17th, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a phone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Both sides emphasized the importance of ensuring the security of energy pipelines between the two countries.
