Statistics on Capacity Utilization of the Pure Benzene Industry Chain (July 3–9, 2026)

Published on 2026-07-09
Product Current Period Previous Period Change Next-Period Direction
Styrene 65.10% 67.66% Down 2.56 percentage points
Phenol 65.37% 71.00% Down 5.63 percentage points
Caprolactam 70.42% 70.36% Up 0.06 percentage points
Aniline 75.83% 74.18% Up 1.65 percentage points
Adipic Acid 60.80% 62.00% Down 1.2 percentage points

Petroleum benzene output stood at 343,500 tons, down 21,100 tons from the previous cycle, representing a decrease of 5.79%, with a capacity utilization rate of 57.19%, down 3.51 percentage points from the prior cycle. The output loss mainly reflects the impact of units that were under maintenance in the previous period, along with shutdowns at Wudi Xinyue, Hongrun Technology, and other plants during this period.

The operating rate of benzene hydrogenation units was 64.07%, up 1.9 percentage points from last week. During the week, Xinyang and Tangshan Zhongrun increased unit loads, Puyang Zhonghui and Tangshan Ruida restarted units, while Henan Shouchuang and Shanxi Lubao shut down their units. As the capacity involved in startups outweighed that involved in shutdowns, the domestic benzene hydrogenation operating rate rose this week.

Among key downstream products this week, capacity utilization for styrene, phenol, and adipic acid declined versus the previous period, while utilization for aniline and caprolactam increased. For styrene, Dushanzi Petrochemical's styrene unit was shut down for maintenance, and the industry as a whole saw widespread cost-driven output reductions, resulting in temporary production losses. For caprolactam, Luxi's Phase III unit was shut down and Shenma reduced its load. For aniline, Fujian Wanhua shut down for maintenance, Shandong Jinling's 30,000-ton unit had a brief 3–4 day outage, and Dongying Caijin operated at reduced load. For phenol, Jiangsu Ruihong's phenol-ketone unit was briefly shut down, while the phenol-ketone units at Shenghong Petrochemical and Longjiang Chemical remained offline for the entire period. For adipic acid, one plant had some units under maintenance.

In the next period, taking into account recent maintenance and restart activities, capacity utilization for phenol and aniline is expected to rise, while utilization for styrene, caprolactam, and adipic acid is expected to decline.

Petroleum benzene capacity utilization falling under maintenance tightens feedstock, while higher benzene hydrogenation run rates may squeeze downstream margins given mixed phenol and styrene demand.
