Statistics on Capacity Utilization Rates in the Pure Benzene Industrial Chain (May 1–7, 2026)

Published on 2026-05-08
Product Current Period Previous Period Change Next-Period Direction
Styrene 74.23% 71.79% +2.44 percentage points
Phenol 85.00% 84.50% +0.5 percentage point
Caprolactam 74.87% 74.59% +0.28 percentage point
Aniline 85.60% 86.37% -0.77 percentage point
Adipic Acid 74.60% 72.50% +2.1 percentage points

Petroleum-based benzene output was 395,800 metric tons, down 5,000 metric tons from the previous period, representing a change of -1.25%. Capacity utilization stood at 66.85%, down 0.84 percentage points from the prior cycle. During the period, units such as BASF's cracker were restarted, while one reforming unit at Hengli Petrochemical and other units were under maintenance; a number of enterprises also adjusted operating loads.

The domestic operating rate for hydrogenated benzene units was 70.16%, down 1.59 percentage points from last week. This week, China's hydrogenated benzene weekly output was 93,100 metric tons, down 2,100 metric tons from the previous week. During the week, Puyang Shengyuan's unit was shut down.

For styrene, Zhejiang Petrochemical's POSM unit returned from maintenance, while some units in Shandong and South China raised their loads. Under the combined effect of the unit return and higher operating loads, the supply side increased overall, driving a slight rise in styrene output and capacity utilization. The overall operating rate of phenol/acetone units fluctuated little, mainly because the load increases implemented at certain units in the previous period covered the entire current cycle. Caprolactam units experienced slight fluctuations. For aniline, Jinling's 100,000-ton unit was shut down from May 6 to May 16; Nanjing Chemical (Nanhua)'s 100,000-ton unit was shut down from May 1 to May 10; Dongying Caijin's 30,000-ton unit was shut down from May 1 to May 9; Jiangsu Yangnong had not yet returned from maintenance. Hengli's adipic acid unit resumed operation and returned to full load.

The mixed capacity utilization along the pure benzene chain shows tight benzene supply discipline, but downstream demand looks soft with next-period directional arrows pointing lower. I'll watch benzene's feedstock cost ..
