Strong Cost Support Drives Market Price Increases (August 28–September 3, 2026)

Published on 2026-09-03
  1. Market Focus This Week

① Raw material pure benzene remained at high levels, placing significant pressure on the cost side.
② The matching rate of cyclohexanone-caprolactam production is relatively high, and the spot supply-demand balance for cyclohexanone is weak.

  1. Weekly Market Analysis

During this period, the weekly average market price of cyclohexanone increased. The weekly average spot price of cyclohexanone in East China was 9,585 yuan/mt, up 2.02% from the previous week's weekly average. During the week, the raw material pure benzene market moved strongly, providing solid support on the cost side. Spot supply and demand for cyclohexanone remained limited, and market prices followed pure benzene upward.

  1. Next Week's Market Forecast

The cyclohexanone spot market is expected to fluctuate in line with pure benzene in the coming period. Key points to watch: 1. Supply. Domestic operating rates at major cyclohexanone plants remain generally stable, and spot supply is steady. 2. Demand. The share of integrated cyclohexanone-caprolactam production capacity in China is relatively high, and most caprolactam producers are fully self-sufficient in raw materials. The chemical fiber industry continues to purchase on an as-needed basis, but downstream processing margins are low, end-product sales are sluggish, and market participants mostly consume their own raw material inventories. Overall market demand is mediocre, and purchasing sentiment remains cautious. 3. Cost. Geopolitical disruptions have raised expectations of upward movement in international oil prices, and East China pure benzene spot prices are expected to remain strong next week, providing solid cost support to cyclohexanone.

In summary, cost-side support remains intact, but downstream demand lacks obvious stimulus. The cyclohexanone market is expected to continue fluctuating in line with pure benzene in the next period.

The cost-push from pure benzene is clearly overriding weak downstream demand for cyclohexanone right now. I expect margins to stay squeezed until the feedstock rally cools, so we'll likely keep tracking benzene movements..
