The market for Bisphenol A (BPA) is showing a downward trend.

Published on 2026-10-16

1. Daily Summary

① Today, the bisphenol A (BPA) market center weakened due to insufficient end-user procurement, with suppliers cautiously offering discounts to move inventory.

② Phenol and acetone prices declined today, leading to an overall weakening of cost support.

2. Spot Market Overview

Taking East China as the benchmark, domestic BPA closed at 10,950 CNY/ton today, within a range of 10,900–11,000 CNY/ton, down 150 CNY/ton from the previous trading day, consistent with morning expectations. The overall market center softened as end-users showed weak interest in entering the market, with bid intentions remaining low. Holders faced difficulties in maintaining stable prices for shipments, resulting in discount offers to facilitate sales. The trend remains downward, with a flat negotiation atmosphere.

3. Production Dynamics

Today’s BPA capacity utilization rate stood near 70.99%, while industry profit margins were recorded at -1,002 CNY/ton.

4. Price Forecast

In the short term, the BPA market is expected to fluctuate within a narrow range. Downstream inquiries and participation remain average, and shipment difficulties persist for holders. Following price declines, the willingness for further discounts may be limited, suggesting that the market center will likely experience only minor fluctuations in the short term. It is recommended to closely monitor actual downstream procurement expectations and production/shipping plans of major manufacturers, proceeding with caution.

5. Related Products

Phenol: Taking East China as the benchmark, phenol prices closed at 9,350 CNY/ton today, down 125 CNY/ton from the previous trading day. The domestic phenol market continued its weak trend. Raw material benzene prices softened, providing limited support. End-user purchasing sentiment remained low, and holders, facing sluggish sales, offered cautious discounts. The market center trended downward, with increased wait-and-see attitudes among traders and a thin negotiation atmosphere.

Acetone: Taking Jiangsu as the benchmark, acetone prices closed at 8,350 CNY/ton today, down 50 CNY/ton from the previous trading day. The East China acetone market operated weakly. With the weekend approaching, trading activity was lukewarm. Some factories lowered their opening quotes, exacerbating wait-and-see sentiments. Holders accelerated shipment efforts, causing offer prices to dip slightly. However, insufficient follow-up from end-users limited transaction volumes.

Epoxy Resin: Taking East China as the benchmark, the ex-factory net water price for liquid E-51 epoxy resin closed at 15,000–15,300 CNY/ton, unchanged month-on-month. In Huangshan, the spot cash price for solid E-12 epoxy resin in neighboring areas held steady at 14,400–14,800 CNY/ton compared to the previous trading day, aligning with morning market expectations. Softening BPA raw material prices have led to significant prior losses for epoxy resin producers. Factory offers remained temporarily stable, while downstream demand was limited to rigid needs, keeping the market center consolidating.

Polycarbonate (PC): The domestic PC market consolidated amid wait-and-see sentiments today. By afternoon close, the negotiation range for domestic-grade materials in East China was 12,750–15,000 CNY/ton, with the overall center stabilizing and some prices dropping by approximately 50 CNY/ton from yesterday. With the weekend approaching, no new price adjustments were announced by domestic PC plants. In the spot market, influenced by upstream raw material declines, both East and South China markets exhibited stagnant consolidation trends. However, limited room for cost-side discounts and persistently low spot inventories kept trader sentiment cautious and moderate. Active low-price selling was limited, while downstream buyers maintained rigid demand with slow trading pace.

BPA prices are sliding as weak downstream demand and falling phenol feedstock costs squeeze margins. With capacity utilization at 70.99%, producers face losses of ~1,000 CNY/ton. I expect short-term fluctuations to remai..
