The domestic 2-EH market trended upward this week, with spot prices in Shandong rising to 9,400–9,500 CNY/ton. This increase was primarily driven by rising propylene feedstock prices, which climbed steadily to year-to-date highs during the period. Due to negative margins for 2-EH producers, plant operating rates declined, leading to reduced supply. Amid the bullish sentiment, downstream buyers actively procured material, causing producer inventories to fall to low levels and fostering a positive negotiation environment. However, after prices reached elevated levels, trading activity for new orders slowed as downstream customers focused on consuming their existing raw material stockpiles.

  1. Next Week Market Forecast

Supply: Domestic 2-EH supply is expected to decrease, resulting in tighter availability.

Demand: Downstream plasticizer plants are anticipated to increase operating loads, boosting demand.

Costs: Propylene prices face downward pressure, suggesting potential for price declines.

While propylene feedstock prices remain high, transactions at these elevated levels are sluggish, and there is still room for downside movement, which may weaken cost support for 2-EH. On the supply side, while Shandong supply is expected to increase slightly, maintenance at 2-EH plants in East China will lead to an overall decline in market supply. Demand is gradually recovering, and producer inventories have fallen to low levels, indicating a generally strong supply-demand balance. It is projected that 2-EH prices will maintain high-level narrow-range fluctuations next week. Key factors to monitor include propylene price trends and 2-EH plant operating rates.
