Tightening Spot Supply Intensifies: Durene Rally Resumes

Published on 2026-09-04

Lead: Affected by renewed tightening of resources in the industrial C10 crude aromatics market, feedstock supply for C10-based durene units has become intermittent, while synthesis-based durene units have no startup plans. Tight spot supply has reignited the upward momentum in the durene market, with mainstream prices rising to 15,000 yuan/mt, up 3,000 yuan/mt from the same period last week.

I. Durene Supply Remains Tight

According to Chempricehub information, entering September, industrial C10 crude aromatics from Fuhaichuang and Shenghong Refining & Chemical were mostly pre-sold, and the durene content in the industrial C10 crude aromatics offered for external sale decreased. This in turn kept the operating load of C10-based durene units low, and units such as Anhui Yunjia and Anqing Yicheng all have maintenance plans. Meanwhile, affected by bearish factors such as rising costs and negative margins, synthesis-based durene units have been shut down for maintenance, and the specific startup time remains uncertain. Therefore, due to tight supply, the overall operating rate of China's durene market is only 19.20%.

II. Durene Prices Surge Sharply

With durene operating rate at 19.20%, intermittent C10 feedstock and negative margins keep spot supply tight. I expect prices to hold near 15,000 yuan/mt until maintenance ends, but weak downstream demand caps gains.
