Weekly Analysis of China Methanol Production and Capacity Utilization Rate (June 19–25, 2026)

1. Qualitative Analysis of Production and Capacity Utilization Trends

In the current week (June 19–25, 2026), China's methanol output totaled 2,041,845 tonnes, up 6,280 tonnes from the previous week. The capacity utilization rate stood at 90.72%, a week-on-week increase of 0.31%.

During this period, one unit in Shandong was newly taken offline for maintenance; one unit in Inner Mongolia newly reduced output; and one curtailed unit in Shandong resumed production. Since the total recovered output exceeded the lost output, production increased and capacity utilization rose.

2. Forecast Analysis of Production and Capacity Utilization Trends

Next week, China's weekly methanol output and capacity utilization are expected to be approximately 2.048 million tonnes and around 90.99%, respectively, both higher than the current period. The capacity scheduled to resume operations next week is greater than the capacity involved in maintenance and output cuts, which is likely to push capacity utilization and production higher.

3. Comparison between Capacity Utilization and Price Trends

This week, China's methanol capacity utilization rate was 90.72%, up 0.31% week on week and down 0.68% year on year. Domestic methanol capacity utilization increased during the week, resulting in higher actual output. However, the futures market continued to plummet, buyers mostly adopted a wait-and-see stance, producers experienced poor shipments, and actual transactions were light—all of which dragged the methanol market in major producing areas sharply lower.
