Weekly Butadiene Inventory Statistics in China (Sep 10–16, 2026)

Published on 2026-09-17

During the current period (September 10–16, 2026), domestic butadiene inventories increased, with total sample inventory rising by 13.42% week-on-week. Specifically, sample enterprise inventory decreased slightly by 0.32% compared to the previous week. Downstream demand showed no significant improvement, and procurement intentions for raw materials remained weak, resulting in minimal changes in enterprise inventory levels. Meanwhile, sample port inventory surged by 24.74% week-on-week. Although limited imported butadiene cargoes arrived during the week, domestic supply arrivals replenished stocks. Additionally, downstream consumption of raw materials slowed slightly, contributing to the increase in port inventory.

Sample Description:
Butadiene producer inventory comprises stock held by PetroChina, Sinopec, and other enterprises, accounting for 45% of total domestic butadiene production capacity. The sample includes 19 enterprises.

Butadiene port inventory refers to sample volumes in East China, covering 100% of commercial tank farm samples. The port sample consists of 9 tank farms, including 4 commercial tank farms and 5 enterprise raw material tank farms.

Definition:
Inventory data for Chinese butadiene producers and sample tank farms represent physical inventory, defined as the actual quantity of product stored in warehouses at a specific point in time.

Statistical Methodology:
Chempricehub’s weekly butadiene inventory statistics are based on data from Wednesday of each reporting week. Reports are published before 17:00 on the following Thursday (business days).

Seeing a 24.74% surge in port butadiene inventories is concerning for near-term margin recovery. Weak downstream demand combined with domestic supply replenishment creates significant inventory pressure, likely capping p..
