I. Qualitative Analysis of Production and Capacity Utilization Trends
This week (September 4–10, 2026), China's methanol production was 1,872,635 tons, an increase of 9,690 tons from last week; plant capacity utilization was 82.89%, up 0.52% week on week.
Table 1 China Methanol Production and Capacity Utilization Weekly Data Comparison (Unit: tons, %)
| Item | This Week | Last Week | WoW Change (%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Production | 1872635 | 1862945 | 0.52% |
| Capacity Utilization | 82.89% | 82.46% | 0.52% |
This week, units newly placed under maintenance included Yulin Kaiyue, Hubei Sanning, Inner Mongolia Rongxin, Shanxi Yaxin, Qinghai Salt Lake, and one unit in Inner Mongolia; no additional production-reduction units were added during this period; maintenance and production-reduction units resumed operation during this period, including Xinxiang Zhongxin, Zhongtian Hechuang, Tangshan Zhongrun, Qinghai Salt Lake, and one unit each in Tianjin, Jiangsu, and Inner Mongolia. Because overall resumed volume exceeded lost volume during this period, capacity utilization rose and production increased.
II. Forecast Analysis of Production and Capacity Utilization Trends
Next week, China's weekly methanol production and capacity utilization are expected to be around 1.9449 million tons and 86.09%, respectively, up from this period. The capacity involved in planned restarts next week exceeds that involved in maintenance and production reductions, which will lead to higher capacity utilization and increased production.
III. Comparison of Capacity Utilization and Price Trends
This week, China's methanol capacity utilization was 82.89%, up 0.52% WoW and down 2.02% YoY. This week, domestic methanol capacity utilization continued to edge up slightly, and market supply increased. The futures market surged, market trading sentiment continued to improve, market trading volume increased, and prices in major production areas rose sharply.
(Note: Because some historical data have been revised, please refer to the latest data for this week.)
Sample Description: Chempricehub's China methanol weekly production and capacity utilization data are first-hand statistics. The sample covers 180 domestic methanol producers, with 100% sample coverage. The statistical period is from Friday of the previous week to Thursday of the current week, and the data are released at 14:30 every Thursday on working days.
Definitions:
Production: Generally refers to the quantity of products that meet relevant standards actually produced by a production enterprise over a period (not the concept of commodity volume; it refers to the weight or volume of goods under a certain measurement system), i.e., actual output.
Capacity Utilization: Refers to the degree to which an enterprise's capacity is utilized, also called operating load. It is generally calculated as the ratio of product output or raw material processing volume to effective capacity.
Statistical Basis: The statistical period for weekly production and capacity utilization is from Friday of the previous week to Thursday of the current week; the data are released at 14:30 every Thursday on working days.
