Weekly Data Statistics of China Methanol Sample Profits (Aug 28–Sep 3, 2026)

Published on 2026-09-03

During the current reporting period (August 28–September 3, 2026), theoretical profits for China’s sampled methanol production routes moved upward overall. In terms of data, the weekly average profit for coal-to-methanol in Inner Mongolia (Northwest China), calculated on a full-cost basis, was 293.50 yuan/ton, up 24.60 yuan/ton from the previous period, an increase of 9.15% week-on-week. On a cash-flow cost basis, the weekly average profit for this route was 693.30 yuan/ton, up 3.65% week-on-week. In Hebei, the weekly average profit for coke-oven gas-to-methanol was 1,091.00 yuan/ton, up 162.00 yuan/ton from the previous week, up 17.44% week-on-week. In Southwest China, the weekly average profit for natural gas-to-methanol was 238.20 yuan/ton, up 166.20 yuan/ton from the previous week, an increase of 230.83% week-on-week. Shandong’s coal-to-methanol route posted a weekly average profit of 352.30 yuan/ton, up 48.40 yuan/ton from the previous week, up 15.93% week-on-week. Shanxi’s coal-to-methanol route posted a weekly average profit of 171.90 yuan/ton, down 55.80 yuan/ton from the previous week, a decrease of 24.51% week-on-week.

Sample description: On the data release day, Chempricehub Information monitors theoretical profits based on raw material prices and mainstream methanol transaction prices collected from China’s major methanol production regions.

Terminology: Production gross profit refers to the weekly theoretical gross profit of methanol producers. Depending on the production process, it is divided into the weekly average gross profit for coal-to-methanol, the weekly average gross profit for coke-oven gas-to-methanol, and the weekly average gross profit for natural gas-to-methanol.

Statistical methodology: Methanol gross profit data from Chempricehub Information are calculated values, derived from methanol market prices and total methanol production costs. The data are released every Thursday (working day) at 15:00.

These methanol margin gains across most routes look supportive, but Shanxi’s 24.5% drop reminds us feedstock cost divergence can hit capacity utilization unevenly.
