Weekly Market Outlook for Hydrogenated Benzene

Published on 2026-10-08

I. Key Highlights

  1. During the National Day holiday, international crude oil prices declined. WTI fell by a cumulative $2.14/bbl, and Brent dropped by $3.33/bbl.
  2. On September 29, Sinopec East China raised its posted price for pure benzene by RMB 300/ton, currently executing at RMB 10,200/ton.
  3. On September 30, the domestic hydrogenated benzene operating rate decreased by 0.74 percentage points to 55.50%.
  4. As of September 28, total commercial inventory of pure benzene at Jiangsu ports (sample basis) stood at 61,000 tons, an increase of 17,000 tons from the previous period's 44,000 tons.
  5. On September 30, profit margins for hydrogenated benzene enterprises in Shandong recovered to RMB 140/ton.

IV. Market Outlook

Before the holiday, domestic hydrogenated benzene market prices rose to high levels. Factories sold two weeks' worth of inventory. During the National Day holiday, factories proceeded with deliveries as scheduled. International crude oil prices fluctuated and pulled back. Most domestic pure benzene markets were closed for the holiday, except for the Shandong pure benzene market, which operated normally with prices maintaining high levels. After the holiday, negotiations for new orders of domestic hydrogenated benzene are expected to begin. Influenced by the high prices of petroleum-based benzene in Shandong, new order prices for hydrogenated benzene will remain elevated. Additionally, restocking demand from some downstream sectors after the holiday may support hydrogenated benzene prices, suggesting limited potential for significant declines.

With crude falling, the Sinopec price hike boosted hydrogenated benzene margins to 140 RMB/ton. However, rising commercial inventories and lower capacity utilization signal potential downstream demand weakness. I expect ..
