Weekly Outlook for the Acrylic Emulsion Market

Published on 2026-10-19

I. Key Points

  1. Oct 16: The conflict between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia continues, overlapping with the Russia-Ukraine conflict to escalate supply risks, pushing up international crude oil prices. NYMEX WTI crude oil futures for the November contract rose by USD 3.44/bbl to USD 101.41/bbl, a week-on-week increase of +3.51%; ICE Brent crude oil futures for the December contract rose by USD 3.94/bbl to USD 109.86/bbl, a week-on-week increase of +3.72%. China INE crude oil futures for the December 2026 contract fell by CNY 2.2 to CNY 723/bbl during the day session, but rose by CNY 16.8 to CNY 739.8/bbl in the night session.

  2. Last week, the domestic MMA market first rose then fell. Supported by supply constraints and costs, holders slightly raised their offer prices. However, downstream purchasing enthusiasm was insufficient, leading to a slight decline around midweek with mediocre transaction volumes. The market is expected to trade weakly today.

  3. Last week, the domestic butyl acrylate (BA) market consolidated at high levels before trending downward amid fluctuations. Upstream propylene traded within a narrow range; raw material n-butanol and acrylic acid prices fluctuated weakly due to demand-side factors, weakening cost support for BA. BA holders adjusted offers according to market conditions. Downstream users showed limited pass-through capability for high raw material prices, primarily consuming existing inventories and fulfilling contracts, with active procurement being limited. High-end prices disappeared, and the market trading center shifted downward amid fluctuations. Today, the BA market is expected to consolidate weakly. Attention should be paid to market supply and the resumption of downstream units in the future.

III. Market Outlook

Last week, raw materials such as MMA, butyl acrylate (BA), and styrene saw narrow declines, providing slight relief on the cost side. Acrylic emulsion manufacturers exhibited strong wait-and-see sentiment, mostly maintaining stable pricing in their offers. Downstream users purchased based on rigid demand, keeping market negotiations steady. Today, the raw material market may still see slight further declines, weakening cost support expectations. Acrylic emulsion producers and traders may actively release inventory to boost sales volume, while downstream users will continue to purchase based on rigid demand. Consequently, the acrylic emulsion market is expected to trend weakly and steadily. Future attention should be focused on developments in the raw materials (BA, MMA, styrene) and downstream markets.

Crude spikes squeeze margins, yet acrylic emulsion holds steady on rigid demand. With BA weakening from soft downstream pull, I expect stable capacity utilization but watch feedstock costs closely as geopolitical risks l..
