Weekly Review of the Asian Butadiene Market (September 14–18, 2026)

Published on 2026-09-18

During this cycle, butadiene prices in the Asian market remained relatively stable. Supported by upstream feedstock costs and a rebound in butadiene rubber (BR) futures, Asian prices maintained their elevated levels. According to traders, “Although downstream demand has been weak, domestic butadiene inventories remain at low levels.” Most market participants anticipate that transaction prices in October will fall within the range of USD 1,550–1,600 per metric ton. Additionally, some industry sources noted that, given the current price spread between butadiene and cis-1,4-polybutadiene rubber, domestic BR producers are operating at a loss. Meanwhile, under pressure from high raw material costs, domestic tire manufacturers have scheduled maintenance shutdowns during the National Day holiday in October, with durations longer than in previous years.
