Weekly Statistics on Butadiene Inventory in China (September 24–30, 2026)

Published on 2026-09-30

During the current period (September 24–30, 2026), domestic butadiene inventories increased, with total sample inventory rising by 4.96% compared to the previous week. Specifically, inventory at sample enterprises increased by 9.93% week-on-week. Downstream demand recovery remained sluggish, resulting in weak purchasing interest for high-priced feedstock and a slight buildup in enterprise inventories. Sample port inventory rose by 1.96% week-on-week. Limited imported butadiene vessel arrivals during the week were supplemented by domestic supply; however, the pace of downstream raw material consumption slowed slightly, leading to an increase in port inventories.

Sample Description:
Butadiene producer inventories cover stocks held by PetroChina, Sinopec, and other enterprises, representing 45% of total domestic butadiene production capacity. The sample set comprises 19 enterprises.

Port inventories refer to sample volumes in the East China region, with commercial tank farms accounting for 100% of the sample coverage. The port inventory sample includes 9 tank farm sites: 4 commercial tank farms and 5 enterprise raw material storage facilities.

Definition:
Inventories at Chinese butadiene producers and sample tank farms refer to physical stock levels, defined as the actual quantity of product present in warehouses at a specific point in time.

Statistical Methodology:
Chempricehub compiles Chinese butadiene inventory data based on figures from the current Wednesday. Reports are released before 17:00 on each business Thursday.

Rising butadiene inventories highlight weak downstream demand and high feedstock costs. With producer stocks up nearly 10%, capacity utilization faces pressure. I expect margins to compress as buyers resist elevated pric..
