What are the key downstream demand segments for DMC and their growth outlook?
DMC is the core intermediate for silicone products, with over 90% of downstream demand coming from silicone rubber (both room-temperature and high-temperature vulcanized) and silicone oil. Silicone rubber dominates, accounting for roughly 60-70% of consumption, used extensively in construction sealants, automotive gaskets, electronic encapsulation, and medical devices. Silicone oil, about 30% of demand, serves textiles, personal care, and industrial lubricants. Growth is increasingly tied to new-energy sectors: photovoltaic modules require silicone sealants, and electric vehicles use silicone for thermal management and insulation. In 2020, the organic silicon sector consumed 660,000 tons of industrial silicon, representing 40% of China's total, reflecting robust upstream linkage. As downstream applications diversify—from building materials to electronics—DMC demand is expected to grow steadily, supported by China's push for high-performance materials and export competitiveness.

Beyond traditional uses, watch specialty applications like D5 in cosmetics and D4 in personal care, which are growing faster but from a smaller base. Also, the shift toward higher-purity DMC (cyclosiloxane content above 99.5%) for advanced electronics and medical uses could create premium pricing opportunities, rewarding producers who invest in refining capacity.
