What are the key logistical and regulatory challenges for exporting isobutanol from China?
Isobutanol is classified as a Class 3 flammable liquid with a flash point of 28°C, UN number 1112. Exporters must comply with IMDG Code requirements for packaging, labeling, and stowage. Critical documentation includes MSDS, a dangerous goods packaging certificate, commodity inspection customs clearance, shipping entrustment, and customs declaration documents. Booking should be made about 14 days ahead, and cargo must arrive at the designated warehouse before the dangerous goods declaration deadline. The original packaging certificate must be provided before declaration, and customs clearance documents submitted five days prior to vessel departure. Transport requires specialized tank trucks or steel drums, grounding chains to prevent static buildup, and segregation from oxidizers and acids. Summer shipments should ideally occur in early morning or evening to reduce heat-related risks.

Beyond documentation, exporters often underestimate the importance of the dangerous goods declaration cutoff. Missing this window can delay shipments by weeks. Also, verify that your freight forwarder has experience with Class 3 liquids, as improper stowage near heat sources or incompatible cargo can trigger port inspections and fines.
